Spray some WD-40 inside the end of the cable after removing it from the lever side. Then follow up with some oil. I use chain lube.

Hmm, I'm sure I read somewhere recently that you should not use chain lube on your cables, or WD40 for that matter. I guess it's better than no lube though.

Of course that is just something I read in an article on the net somewhere, not neccessarily true. Don't recall the reasons.

Anyone else?

WD-40 "dries out" after awhile, I was suggesting it to loosen up the cable first, then apply OIL.

I use chain lube on my cables, no problem. Maybe it's because I use it regularly and the WD-40 cleans out the crud before I "lube" it.

You can buy expensive cable lube, but you can use just about anything you want.

Marvel Mystery Oil is a good one.

Funny, just out of curiosity I ran a little search on cable lubes. One place recommended using WD but not chain lube. One said chain lube, one says to mix powdered graphite with WD-40 and put it in a balloon and do the cables with that.

Light weight motor oil is another good one. Automatic trans fluid makes a great penetrating oil and I have used that on cables.

I'm thinking chain lube is not good in that it can be a little sticky after it's in there awhile. The kind I'm using doesn't seem to make a differenceon my large economy sized clutch cable.
