Nah Yamaha has some great machines out but not this one sorry it's uncool to me.

I rode this bike at demo days. The ride was a little over half an hour. I could hardly wait for the ride to be over.

It's suitable for smaller framed people. I felt cramped on it. It also was bone jarring.

It handled great though.

That's a shame, it does look quite promising and when you compare it to say, a Harley-Davidson sportster, it definitely has some advantages there as well, but an uncomfortable bike is, well, not worth much. Do you think if you got a 3rd party or gel seat for it it would make the difference or is it more the riding position?

In my case nothing would help. But a younger person with a good back who just wants to bop around town would love it. It shifted well and cornered well and had lots of pep....just not for me.

well, you wouldn't want to go very far on the highway dressed like the guy in the picture now, would you? He does have gloves and ankle boots on and he is wearing a helmet, of sorts. But it looks like they are marketing to the short-run, urban, single guys. Not me.

Too much displacement for bopping around town...

Not enough gas tank for eating up freeways.

Strictly a bar hopper or boulevard machine. And it's not edgy enough to pull those off.

If the bolt has too much displacement for around town then I'm in trouble with my Stratoliner . I voted awesome, good price, nice looking bike, good power and lean angle, lower weight for the city. No I don't feel its a highway bike but not that it would not do it.

Sorry for being slightly OT, but the pic you're referring to is an official PR/manufacturer photo, isn't it? It kinda annoys me when manufacturers use, well, somewhat underprotected riders in ads (even though, I gotta admit, the rider is completely "legal" in terms of what he's wearing). I think bike brands should set an example and show some sort of minimum standard of safe riding gear in their ads. Motorcycle magazines do this; even riders of cruisers and so-called retro bikes are usually still shown wearing protective gear. Even if you're targetting hipsters, there are loads of cool looking retro mesh and leather jackets out there (maybe there are even a few in Yamaha's own clothing catalog). Ok, rant over.

Back to the bike: Well, it's cool enough, and I assume with the upgraded suspension it'll handle better. Hopefully it'll have an analog speedo instead of the awful digital one on the regular Bolt.

After some thought, I went with: Awesome.

It was close to a cool, but really, this is something quite special (for a cruiser) in Yamaha's line up and it looks really cool as well. The silver version reminds me a lot of Yamaha's 80's paint jobs they put on the Seca, so that's a nice retro touch. I'd have liked to see a bigger tank but 47/51 mpg for a 950cc bike? That's pretty darn good and at 3.2 gal, that will take you almost 150miles, which is almost double of that of the Harley-Davidson Sportser on a peanut tank.

I've sat on one and I do think it's (strangely) as top heavy as the Sportster is. I would think that it wouldn't feel very light nor confidence inspiring to a new or newer rider. Heck, it feels top heavy to me and I've rode full on Harley's. But that said, I'm happy to see Yamaha offering an upgraded model "R", very nice!

Kinda a standard mixed with a cruiser, somewhat like the VX800 of old.
