my bike's got soul (damn!!)

ok so me and the girlfreind were out on the town thuresday, movie, dinner, the whole shabang. my 78 honda cx500 squired us about town, and it was a really successful night any way, the next morning i get up and am about to go for a drive and there it is, my flaless right tale pipe is covered in black nike rubber, i about "poo poo" my pants. turns out she wasent using the foot peg she was using my pipe. well any way i scrubbed at it for a good bit of time and nothing happend, i really dont want to scrach the crome. how do i get it off!!
im open to suggestions help me!

I don't know if it's the right way, but I'd warm up the pipes a bit before I tried to get it off. I'd probably use a wet cloth as well, then chrome polish after the pipes are cool again.
