cleaning a defroster style helmet visor

Due to recent unforseen circumstances (me forgetting my Shoei was sitting on the ground behind the truck  ), I've had to start using my snowmobile helmet as my bike helmet. Problem is that it has the electric defront visor option, I have no clue where I put the owner's manual, and I never used this one enough to get it dirty enough to clean before.

It's now got bugs and road gunk smeared on it, and I'm not sure how to clean it. Is standard every day Windex type stuff OK to use on it? How about RainX'ing it? I'm not so much worried about doing anything to the defrost grid, as it's highly unlikely that it's going to see any duty as a sled helmet again. What I am worried about is doing something like clouding up the plastic visor, making it totally unusable.

take a soft washcloth and soak it in hot water. wring it out a bit and let it sit on the visor and front of the helmet for a couple minutes - this will soften the bugs and allow you to just wipe them off. use a second soft washcloth to dry the visor after you have gotten all the bugs off.

Windex or most other cleaners of that sort, aren't the best thing to be using on visors or windshields. WhyteGryphon had it right and you can use a bit of regular dish soap on the cloth as well. I would use a micro-fibre cloth, as it won't scratch your plastics or paint.

RainX... Now that changes depending on what type of shield you have. I would test a small spot near the hinge where it won't affect your vision, and see what happens when you follow the rainX instructions. If no damage is done, go ahead elsewhere... My shield doesn't have a problem with the stuff, although a friend had to replace his brand new shield last fall, a day after he put it on the helmet...
