Shaft Drive Concerns

I have a 2010 Honda Sabre 1300 and have been noticing a ticking/clicking noise from the final drive when i am traveling with low engine rpm's or release/engaging throttle. It seems to be progressively getting worse and louder. Yesterday i put the bike in gear (with motor NOT running) to see how much "play" it had in the drivetrain, and i could move the bike back and forth 4-5 inches each way. Is this a problem? And should i be concerned with safety of the bike traveling highway speeds? The bike only has 4500 miles

I had an issue with my Yamaha....it turned out the splines weren't greased. After the greasing was done, the noise went away.
Although the noise the Yamaha had was squeaking not ticking.

First approach is to put it up on centerstand, motor off, and feel the gearcase and the swingarm as the wheel is turned. Do it both in neutral and with transmission in gear. (still motor off) See what you find.
It might not even be driveshaft - could be brake, could be something else.
Might not be anything since the bike is low mileage. or it could be that it's something serious.
Remote diagnosis via the internet isn't always the best.
