I need to know the model of my yamaha. It is a 1985 700 yamaha. I want to buy a repair manual and I don't know which model bike to buy it for. Is there a way to know by reading some thing off the engine or on the frame? The only thing I find is (YICS) written on the valce cover. Please help. Thanx.

It should have a vehicle compliance plate mounted somewhere on the frame stating model and year of manufacture.

I found the sticker at the front at the front wheel pivot point and all I found is the yr and manufacturer. And the VIN#. This are some choices that I have XJ700N; XJ700XN/C; XJ700; XJ700S/C

You could take the VIN number to your local DMV and they could look it up for you. Or pay a couple bucks and carfax.com could probably tell you.
Also, the bike's title will have the exact model number.

The model # space has been left blank on the tittle.

Have you checked the registration papers? That will state your VIN and engine number along with the make and model of the bike.

YICS (YIKES!!) is yamaha induction control system. In other words, your carbs are a real Pain in the Rear to work on
The xj700 was only produced for 2 years. If you want the manual, you will probably have to pony up the big bucks and get the Factory repair manual from yamaha.
You can also get the haynes xj650/xj750 as a supplement to the facctory manual. It's the same engine, probably just resleeved with minor modifications. Call up Yamaha and ask what the differences are. Be sitting down when they tell you the price of the factory manual

Ebay auction 7992997188 appears to be the right manual for the bike (at least it has a picture of the bike, you can compare against yours for confirmation)
And if you want the manual, it's currently at $46
