alright guys and gals, i'm new to riding (taking the msf course on the 1st! of sept!) and i just have three quick questions.

1. can someone explain to me what and where the throttle body is? is it the part the air filter connects to that goes to the venturi?

2. what parts exactly consist of the intake manifold? is the the whole carb or is it a separate something that runs air into the engine?

3. steering-head bearings, where exactly are they?

ive been reading all about engines and such but these terms always confuse me and i'm just trying to get my bearings as to what/where they're talking about....thanks in advance for the help!

1. The throttle body is simply the part that houses the the Throttle butterfly - On a carbed bike, the throttle body is part of the carb..

2. The intake manifold is the part that connects the throttle body (or carburettor) to the engine. On a carbed bike, for example, it's the Rubber tube between the carb and the engine.

3. Steering head bearings are in the steering head (of course!) If you look at the steeering head between the upper and lower triple trees, there is usually a lip on the upper and lower portion of the steering head. These lips hold the (ball or roller) bearings that the entire assembly rotates on. -

thanks for you help...so the throttle butterfly on a fuel injected bike is what controls how much air gets in? don't CV carbs have butterfly's too?

The throttle butterfly (or throttle valve) does indeed control the amount of air that goes into a bike if the bike has CV carbs or Fuel injection.

Older style slide-type carbs simply use the slide position to determine amount of air entering the engine.
