Missing in Action

#1 Unread post by pinger05 »

Some of you might have noticed that I have been missing for quite some time now.
Anyway over the last three months I have relocated my familly from sunny Southren California to South West Germany. We have a huge house but no motorcycles. Prior to moving I stored by 81 Wing and sold the 78 CB750K. Both of which I miss dearly.
The village I live in doesnt have DSL avaliability as of yet. Currently I am working off a 'Hot' 44.0kbs. Gotta love it!
One thing I have noticed is the volume of BMW motorcycles over here. Actually I am considering purchasing one.

Prior to me leaving the states I came across a motorcycle helmet comparason in a magazine. They compared wind noise, ventalation, and a few other criteria. Of that list there was one helmet that had the most ventalation of any helmet sold. That was the one I am looking for, but I cannot remember what it was called. All I remember is that the manufacturer began with a S. I was thinking shoei but I could not find it on their page. Thanks for your help.

Its good to be back!

BMW is to Germany what Harley is to the US. In fact if you buy a Harley over there, they may look down upon you. If you need info on the models let me know.

What part of southwest Germany are you in? I was stationed in Lahr (100km south of Karlsruhe) many years ago and still have friends in the area.

I work in Kaiserslauten but my house is in a little village 2 clicks from Katzweiler.

I love crusers and dont know anything about BMW. Personally I prefer engines below 1200cc (they handle better) and I like to ride in a relatively wind-free envronment (hince my love of GoldWings). Any ideas?

When in Rome... :)

Beemers are good bikes and will keep you out of the wind all day in comfort. If you want a cruiser, though, you'll find they're not as plentiful over there as they are back in North America. Hard to recommend anything, really, as it all boils down to your personal preference. You might want to stick with a Gold Wing as they're fairly common and have the right combo of power and handling you'll need on the autobahns.

BMW do a cruiser as well, try www.bmwmotorad.com you can view all the bikes. Have only really driven through Germany but the weather sucks most of the time. If you can not find A wing a beemer would be a good choice. The R1150RT is an all day tourer with a sport edge. Full fairing and electric windsheild, heated grips. Boxer motor that goes forever with a lot less maintanence than the wing.

Another helmet that starts with "S" is Schuberth. Made in Germany and was the first to design a modular helmet, (Flip-up) in 1978 for BMW.

Schuberth (tel. +49 531 380050, www.schuberth.de).

Or Simpson - they make a lot of the Racers helmets...
Don't give up.
