Re: no power after shifting into 3rd gear
What do you mean, no power in third gear? Do you mean you run through the rpm range (1100 at idle to say 5000 when you shift) in first, than second, and when you shift into third the engine dies, you roll to the side of the road and have to start over.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

Re: no power after shifting into 3rd gear
OP- you bought a bad running bike and plan to fix it based on internet advice? Are you good with carburetor rebuilds?
Johnj- I get frustrated with postings here asking for help that contain nearly no information. Any chance you could post a sticky asking that folks asking for help supply some information? (such as - has it always done this? What have you tried so far? When, exactly, does the problem occur? When does it NOT occur? etc)
OP- too wide gap spark plugs, weak coil, leaky carb diaphragms, previously messed-with carbs, vacuum (air) leak, contaminated gas (yes, I had this exact symptom when I put too much MMO in the gas for long term storage), and maybe more depending on additional info you might be able to supply.
Unscrupulous mechanic - "you need a new engine"
