@COLDENHOFF BATTLES #MEXICAN #MXGP HEAT

Team Suzuki Press Office – September 13.
Hot and stuffy conditions and an altitude of 1800 metres meant a tricky first day of practice and qualification for the Grand Prix of Mexico at Leon and the penultimate round of the 2015 FIM Motocross World Championship as Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe’s Glen Coldenhoff rode to fifth position despite suffering in the climate both physically and with the set-up demands of his RM-Z450.
Leon is largely unchanged for the 17th fixture of 18 in the 2015 schedule; the reduced paddock and entry list – affected by injuries and the costs of another trip to the Americas this season – found a hard-pack, flat and sweeping course. The dirt was still quite hard and compact despite all the rainfall in the build-up that had left parts of the city flooded. Coming to this region of the country for the second time (and second year in a row) meant that the factory teams had data and information to cope with the thinner air but for Coldenhoff this was the first time tackling Leon with a 450.
He was fifth fastest in both practice sessions and then managed to catch a lagging Evgeny Bobryshev in the 20-minute and two-lap Heat race for the same ranking.
Over in the MX2 class and Brian Hsu took his RM-Z250 to ninth position. The German made a reasonable start and recorded another top-10 finish in just his second Grand Prix. Team-mate Jeremy Seewer chased him in 12th spot. The Swiss crashed early in the race after losing traction with the front end of the ’#91’ machine and had to restart from almost last place.
Potential thunderstorms are predicted for the races on Sunday.
Glenn Coldenhoff:
“Hot work out there today and I felt pretty good on the bike even if the power wasn’t like normal and I had to adjust a bit. I reached a point in the moto where I wasn’t feeling too good and had to back-off but then I was able to pick it up again by the end of the Heat. I think Bobryshev had the same problem and it was harder to breathe. Anyway, fifth is OK on the gate and we’ll do our best tomorrow.”
MXGP Qualification Heat result: 1. Romain Febvre (FRA, Yamaha), 24:54.626; 2. Gautier Paulin (FRA, Honda), +0:04.494; 3. Shaun Simpson (GBR, KTM), +0:05.179; 4. Maximilian Nagl (GER, Husqvarna), +0:19.327; 5. Glenn Coldenhoff (NED, Rockstar Energy Suzuki), +0:22.708; 6. Evgeny Bobryshev (RUS, Honda), +0:23.115; 7. Tyla Rattray (RSA, Kawasaki), +0:26.360; 8. Jeremy Van Horebeek (BEL, Yamaha), +0:33.268; 9. Jose Butron (ESP, KTM), +1:00.147; 10. Dean Ferris (AUS, Husqvarna), +1:03.372.
