Picked up my "new" motorcycle 2 days ago, put in 150 miles so far.

My last post got eaten by the hacker, so here's the rehash:

1986 Honda VF700, it had 7k miles on it when I bought it from the guy. Cost me $1800 even.
Really nice shape, practically brand new! It's black with red lettering and very very shiny chrome. The rear shocks are so clean they look almost invisible. He took really good care of it. I'll try to get some pics up one of these days.

It came with a windshield and saddlebags, which I removed. Thinking of grinding down the windshield and using it, because at the moment it's the perfect height that the top is level with my eyes. Going to hang on to the bags too, in case I go on a long trip someday.

I did notice one problem though. The front wheel makes kind of a rubbing sound when taking corners below 45 mph or so. Like a hiss with a slight grumble. Hard to describe... anyone know what it might be? He told me before I bought it that the tires need replacing, so maybe I can have the professionals check it out then.

Anyway, it's really smooth, responsive, and surprisingly easier to handle at low speeds than my 440 despite being significantly heavier. I don't feel like I'm being kicked around when the semi-trucks go by anymore, and the engine isn't tearing its hair out keeping up with freeway traffic.

And holy smoking donuts does it go fast!!! Hahahaha! I'm in heaven!

The noise could be several things. Could be a wheel bearing going phhht - that's what I'm hearing from here.
No, really, but it could also be a speedo drive - don't remember whether your bike has a front wheel speedo or rear. How are the front brakes? Pads OK?
I'd say hurry up and get those new tires and get it checked out... you think it handles good now!? Just wait 'til you've got fresh rubber!!
I wouldn't mess around with a front end noise, ME - it may be OK for a little longer, but maybe not.

Poppy's right - get that noise checked by a pro. Safety first, after all. Congrats on that new ride! It's age may require you to get a few bugs worked out, but considering it's low mileage, once you chase those bugs away - you'll have a nice bike for a long time. Hurry up with those pics! We're dying to get a look at it!

The speedometer goes to the front wheel on this one. My old bike made a funky noise in the front until the speedometer finally stopped working, but that was more of a loud whining sound and only happened when slowing down quickly. Either way, I'll see about getting the tires tomorrow, and have them do a full check-up to see if anything needs adjusting or replacing.
