to be honest, I am not sure what to think or how to vote on this thing..............all I know is I doubt I would own or ride one.

I like it a lot. Yamaha is doing well in my opinion to keep offering great bikes that are sub 10k. I do see a lot of people painting that radiator black to match the bike. I am assuming this bike is sub 10k. I voted Cool.

It's basically the return of the UJM, isn't it?

The world needs more reasonable bikes; reasonable engine size, seat height, weight, comfort, price, power, tank range, and looks. Of course at this point, a lot of these are assumptions for the XSR, but they seem likely given this bike's specs.

The engine area could look a bit less cluttered, and the odd radiator (why isn't it matte black?) has already been mentioned, but otherwise, I appreciate the fact that it looks like how motorcycles used to look like. I appreciate the availability of ABS, I hope there's space for a tool kit under the seat (or even better, I hope a reasonably good tool kit comes standard), and I hope there's at least the option of a center stand (although the design of the muffler makes this unlikely, but you never know).

Solid cool is my vote.

Too fugly for words. Way too busy. Does half that stuff have a function? Looks like it was built out of LEGO.

Fail.

As Yamaha has done in the past, it looks like an industrial pump.

I went with: Cool? (Cool with a question mark)

It has it's cool parts and it's uncool parts. I really like the outline of the bike, as mentioned, it looks like a retro UJM, but I really don't like the complexity and mess of the engine. It's like a Transformer threw up to create that mechanical mess of a left side! The components are nice, it's just too busy for the eye. But I'm 101% sure it would draw crowds at any bike night though.

For the retro XS650 look, I really don't see much of the XS650 in there other than it's a 2 cylinder with a round headlight... I actually think it looks a little more BMW RnineT myself. But it's a good idea.



So overall I'm a tossed up on the vote, but Cool it is as it is so different and I applaud Yamaha for trying something really neat in bike design and not the same ol' thing.

Notes: The Yamaha XS650 lives! Well, not exactly, but it is a "modernly retro take on a UJM". A little too complex, a little too busy, couldn't Yamaha cut the vast amount of stuff all over the engine down a little? That said, it still ranked pretty high at 70% and it WILL draw attention anywhere you go. It has a nice seat, a good headlight and great power for a 700cc parallel twin and nothing looks quite like it on the street today. Will it sell though?
