I've been looking a CBR600F4i for my first bike and read in the noob sticky above to keep the HP under 80. Does anyone know the HP and Torque of this bike?

95.5 @ 12,500 for an '01 model.

Drat. I really like that model too. Any suggestions for a first Sportbike?

Ninja 250 or 500, Suzuki GS500F, Hyosung GT250 Comet. Those are the top beginner sportbikes. They are all very nice and have their pluses and minuses.

I actually just remembered that my stepsister has a Ninja 250 that she can't handle. Everytime she tries to use it, it just flies out from under her. I think I'll see if I can buy that one off of her until I feel like I can handle the CBR. Out of curiousity, what are the positives and negatives of this bike?

Positives include incredible amount of parts for them (cheap to repair when you drop it), cheap insurance and they hold their value exceptionally well.

Negatives include... they are fairly small and are lacking on power.

That said, I had a chance to ride one and my 6' frame was a bit scrunched on the bike, but it was still a total blast.

SV650 could also work. has about 70hp with a nice torquey powerband. can be had in both dressed and naked forms, looks great in both forms, and not too pricey even for a new one.

If you can snag that Ninja 250 from your sister for a good price, do that. Work on that bike for awhile, you will probably tire of it quickly, but you have to get your feet wet on a mild bike.

After you are very comfortable with all aspects of riding, which will take several months, get your F4i. If you can nab that ninja 250 for cheap(with cash), do it.

I found out that she sold it a while back because she couldn't ride it. I'll be looking for one in the local bargain mags and such. There's a dealership near here that has one (1994) for $1,970. I was hoping for a little lower than that tho. If I just can't find one, maybe I'll the GS500 or SV650 instead.

Also, I am 5'11" so the 250 may be a little too small for me for an everyday rider (once I'm comfortable with the highway and all). I plan to use the bike primarily for transit to/from work but I live in the suburbs so I'll have time and the space to justify a sportbike.[/quote]
