"Starter" Bike Customizing?

#1 Unread post by Jeffreybomb »

As always, if I'm referencing something in this post improperly, correct my noob-self.
;)

I'm a big fan of the cruisers, simply because I think they look more traditional. I'm planning to go sit on a few this weekend just to get a better idea about what I'm looking for. From what I've read of this board so far, a lot of new folks around here shop by sitting on a bunch of bikes they think they may be interested in.

However, it seems like quite a few of the bikes that could be considered "starter" bikes generally have the same measurement as far as length goes. I'm six-foot-five and don't want to look like I'm hunching!

Are there ways to customize how far back the seat sits from the handlebars, or vice-versa? I know there's different types of handlebars you can get and different dimensions to them -- but what else is there? Is it even worth customizing a "starter?"

And -- as an unrelated footnote -- thanks for suggestions and help in the past. It's great having this board for reference!

Finding the bike you can fall in love with is a lot like finding a good woman . When you find her , get comfortable as you can with her . Then when you've ridden her hard and put her away wet a few times , that will be the time to start thinking about changing her around . Mayhaps you might not want to think of her as a starter bike .
Just an old guys 2¢ worth once again .
Kindest regards, Wizzard
