Welcome aboard! If you peruse the "New Biker" forum, you'll find lots of questions and answers regarding first-bike choices and recommendations. Some of our British members can probably help you with the licensing question, but also calling up your department of motor vehicles would also give you the exact information that you're seeking. Keep us posted, and enjoy the forums.
Cheers,
Loonette

Hello Alex.
There is a few of us on here from the UK, the Midlands mostly.
Welcome aboard, any advice, sounding out or just general support you want you only have to ask for - we're friendly honest!.
You've had motorcyle entitlement (class A) on your provisional licence so that should have transferred over onto your full licence when you got your car licence. If it isnt showing on your card check the paper counterpart.
The question is what do you want to ride? If you are happy on a 125 for a while then you just need a new CBT. If you'd like to be on the road with a bigger bike then you can take the full licence.
As you are under 21 you can only take the restricted test now. Basicly the same course and test just done on a smaller machine, at the end of that you will be licenced to ride on the road without loonie plates but will be restricted to bikes less than 33bhp. Generally this means 250's although there are some larger bikes are less than 33bhp and some smaller bikes develop more. Just to make things more complicated a lot of the larger bikes can be fitted with kits to restrict them to 33bhp.
This restriction lasts for two years, after that your licence automatically becomes unrestricted with no further test or course.
However... When you turn 21 our wonderful governement believes that you are responcible enough to take the Direst Access - only a little more expensive than the restricted (part one) course. If you take the DA and pass you will be licenced to ride with no restrictions.
