New from URAL for the 2017 model line. Very, very, limited edition of 25.

- Could you see yourself in one?

- Have you ever rode a URAL either as a rider or passenger?

This week's bike has been inspired by the following photo:

I like the bike for its uniqueness and cargo capacity...just don't like the price. In Canadian dollars it's very high.

Very high... but you do get a Russian Utility Shovel! Think of all the uses for it, like cooking eggs over a campfire!

Awesome for:
1. They are only making 25 of them, a real collector's item
2. A spare freakin' tire, on a freakin' motorcycle.
3. The whole "go anywhere" ethos these bikes inspire. Have you seen those crazy Russians crossing rivers on these things?

Will have to try riding one sometime.

UnCool.
I just don't get the niche this thing is trying to fill. If crossing rough terrain on a rugged, compact platform is your goal, get a four-wheeler. Or three four-wheelers for the price. If your goal is off-road motorcycling, get a dirt bike. Or three, again. And if you want a collector's item straight outta the history books, get a die-cast model and make the engine noises with your mouth.
And my entrenching tool goes in my backpack on all road trips already, so even the Ruskie shovel has no appeal.

I like it for sheer nostalgia purposes. Is it a niche market... certainly. So was the BMW GS series 8-10 years ago. Will this thing catch-on like the GS... doubt it. So I will harken back to days of yor when TV was black and white and Vic Morrow was the tough sergeant on "Combat" or old John Wayne war movies or more recently Clint Eastwood battle flicks and you always see someone (German or American) screaming across the countryside and over rough rutted roads in these things:

https://qph.ec.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-b ... 708487c5-c

Even Steve McQueen slipped in a ride or two on one of these things:

Pricing seems reasonable for what you get. I've seen "Awesome" votes on two wheelers from Italy that cost twice as much.

Reading through the "User's Manual" which also doubles as the "Maintenance Manual" this thing is constructed so basic that any shade tree mechanic can use the provided documentation with basic tools and keep riding, avoiding down time and high maintenance bills. Unique... absolutely. For everyone... definitely not. Cool... yup.

Yes. Yes, I have. Owned a 2005 Tourist from new till 2011, founded (and still manage) the Canadian Ural/Dnepr Riders Group (CURD) and worked at an Ural dealership from 2012 to 2015. I'll reserve the rest of my comments until after the voting has completed.
