400cc too small?

New rider here. About 280lbs. I found a 81 honda cm400c that i really like but is 400cc to small for me?

It is kinda small but if you want to learn to ride it would be great for a while..I am new also I took the beginners class and bought a vl800 been riding about 2 months and it's is a great bike

Not at all. My first bike was an xs400 and I tell you it could get you into trouble fast enough. My sr250 right now I've ridden 2 up with myself and my wife and that's more weight then you combined and it still was up to the task. It's not engine size that you'll outgrow. The 250 would be enough to mess you up. Learn on the older/smaller and you'll feel confident on the newer/bigger later. Plus cheaper insurance, if you drop it you'll not feel so bad and it'll be cheaper to fix and easier to lift up. And little whippy bikes are easy to do cones and pylons in a test.

So long as it runs and passes a basic safety inspection, SURE! Its your first bike, not your one and only bike. Little ones are perfect for syncing in the basic skills and they're a helluva hoot to ride!

I don't think so. 400cc was enough for a beginner rider. Easy ride, not too much strong but enough about speed. Let's get it.

my first was a 800 but you can learn how to handle it better

That sounds a fun old bike. Pretty sure it can handle just fine as long as it is in good shape.
