i keep seeing on the news people in new orleans are looting like Crazy. would anyone here go looting?

i see people going through grocery stores taking food and stuff, i dont see that as a problem sure the people are doing it out of greed not so much survival. But the store cant resell any of that food it would be thrown away anyways. people stealing Tvs and stuff from walmart i dont see a problem with, walmart is insured and big enough to loose some inventory. i dont like people stealing from small stores though it sucks a private bussiness owner to loose everything because someone wants a few tshirts or something stupid.

Looters should be shot on sight. No mercy whatsoever.

Looters are germs. I don't recall hearing anything regarding a famine in the US so that only leaves shameful opportunism as the reason behind it.
Theft is theft.

WTF?!?!?? Your moral reasoning is fu**ed up big time, boyo!

If you're starving, and steal a loaf of bread, that's one thing. News reports indicate that the folks at the Superdome are running out of food and clean drinking water ... and there's no way to remedy that soon.

These are the folks who have lost everything, and if they start wading throught the streets and steal a bottle of clean water or food, yeah, I'd forgive them. I mean, what would you do if you were in such a situation?

But if they steal a TV, be it from Wal Mart or from a family-run business on Canal Street, well, that's definitely not okay.

Look, I dislike Wal Mart as much as anybody, but I have nothing but contempt for people who think it's OK to steal from a corporation just because it's insured. As I said at the top of this post, WTF!?!??

I'd have to agree, if people steal tvs from walmart, there's two ways this can go...

1 the cost of the tv is less than their insurance excess
Result: Walmart puts up prices to cover the cost, walmart don't lose the public do

2 the cost of the tv is more than their insurance excess
Result: the insurance company pay the cost, But charge Walmart a higher insurance rate on later years... Walmart puts up it's prices to cover this cost, walmart don't lose the public do

You can kid yourself that the insurers pay for the goods, but thats only the start of a chain. everyones in it to make profits except the customer. They wouldn't do things at a loss, so the only losers are the honest paying customers

I absolutly agree!! Unless they are taking food to feed their families, they are the lowest form of life. They are taking advantage of a tragedy for their own prosperity.

I've never stolen anything in my life. I imagine lots of these people haven't either. You'd see things a bit differently if your house is under water, your baby is on the roof and you haven't eaten in twelve hours. I guarantee it. What are you gonna do - go to McDonalds? McDonalds is gone. The grocery store? Some of it is still there but there's no one to take your money. For the next day or two I say everyone gets a free pass on looting food and water. Now the idiots taking TVs and jewelry? That's a completely different story. I wouldn't shoot them becasue a TV isn't worth that to me. I'd prosecute to the full extent of the law though. What kind of selfish jerk goes looking for TVs and jewelry when thousands of neighbors are suffering and people are trapped? If you were there wouldn't you go try and help people for as long as it took?

Why is your baby on the roof during a mandatory evacuation?

Shoot the looters. If the store wants to give out food, good on them, otherwise, thou shalt not steal, or you'll get a bullet in your head.

There was no 'mandatory' evacuation at that point. And some of these people are mind-numbingly poor - no vehicles, kids, a $7/hr job. Upwards of 20% of the city was still there. Do you watch the news? What kind of person shoots people for taking bread after the hell these people have been through? This isn't like 9/11 or your average tornado or earthquake. Many of these people can't simply walk to a better situation - they are trapped there and there are no services. You have a black heart dude - I'm in another window exploring ways to volunteer for the Red Cross and you're daydreaming about shooting people for taking food. Nice.
