Families can log onto www.abbylou.org and fill out an application. The application will be reviewed and families will be contacted with in 14 days as to what the Foundation can provide. Payments are made directly to the hospital, doctor or care provider on behalf of the family. We will also be contacting hospitals and asking them to refer families to the foundation that are having difficulties in paying their expenses.
Abby Lou Foundation is pleased to announce partnerships with drivers such as Brian Paulus and Brandon Wimmer of the World of Outlaw series, Cody Geldart in the All Stars, Brandon Gray and Will Bevan in the Winged Outlaw Warriors and Peter Murphy in the Bandit Sprints on the West Coast as well as HostIowa.net who provided the foundation's web site. The teams will all display the Foundations logo for the rest of the season which was created by Paulus to bring awareness about the Abby Lou Foundation. Extreme Graphix located in Aberdeen, South Dakota produced the vinyl decals of the logo for the teams. The fine folks at HawgWyld Cycles (www.hawgwyldcycles.com) in Lee's Summit, Missouri has supplied the foundation with a custom Harley Davidson Chopper that is being raffled off and can be seen at www.abbylou.org. Fans can purchase entries through the site and each entry is only $10.00. The chopper will be on display at various racing events throughout the rest of the year.
"I am proud to be associated with the Abby Lou Foundation." commented Paulus."Paul and Nicole (Joiner the foundations founders) really have their heart in this. Their daughter Abby was the motivation behind it as she was born with Hemiplegia and the couple know first hand the costs associated with treatments for children with disabilities. This is really a terrific way to help children and families and do it through our sport. I am always humbled when I visit a children's hospital and see these kids who each day use all their strength and courage to do what we take for granted each day. It is our goal to make Abby Lou Foundation an overwhelming success and help as many deserving families as we can."
"This is something I have always wanted to do." said co-founder Paul Joiner. "When our daughter was diagnosed it really gave us a sense of reality. She is the most courageous little girl and inspires us each and every day. We have made numerous visits to Children's Mercy Hospital in KC and see so many families that are in a much harder situation than we are. Through our visits with these families it became obvious that so many are struggling with the costs. That is when my wife and I decided we had to do something. The more I thought of it and talked with drivers I work with it hit me that this great sport is loaded with fantastic people and is a perfect vehicle to promote the foundation. With their help and the help of Kyle McCullough of HostIowa.net, Bob Douglas of Rod End Supply and HawgWyld Cycles we were able to get this off the ground."
"There truly is nothing better than to be able to assist these families." continued Joiner. "I know how grateful they are for the help. Insurance just does not cover everything. When you have a procedure that costs thousands of dollars the family is the one that still owes thousands. You have to do it because this is your child and you do what ever you have to for them and Abby Lou Foundation understands that first hand. We look forward to working with families across the country for many years to come."
