hey im new here and just starting to get into bikes. With the way gas prices are going and such I'm looking into getting one, just trying to educate myself on them and what is a good beginner bike to get.

I'm 18, 225 and want a sporty looking bike not a cruiser or such. Nothing extremely fast, but something decent for a first bike.

How much ya think im looking to spend for one?

How much do you have or want to spend on one? Give us a budget range and prepare for a long list of recommended new and used scoots from the members here.

hey hows it going? I wanted to spend less than 2K if i could, but I'm not quite sure how much a decent bike for a beginner is going for. Right now Im reading hte forums and about to find a cycle course in my area to take.

I picked up a cherry '84 Honda NightHawk 700SC for $1900.00. It was my second bike, and a great one at that. You should be able to pick up a nice 80's or 90's UJM in the 500-750cc range for $2,000 or less.

that looks more like a cruiser to me than a sporty bike.

I need to find out about insurance too, because some ppl have been saying bike insurance is outrageous right now....

That was sporty back in the day. And bike insurance is a hell of a lot cheaper than car insurance. Well, at least if you already have a car. Insurance on a bike that's $4,500 new is only $110 a year more for me, and that's with decent insurance. That's also with a speeding ticket on there.
