On a scale of 1-10 my mechanical skills are about 5. I just ran across a 2000 vfr800 with 35000miles on it thats been sitting in a barn for almost 3 years. There are no maintenance records or contact with previous owner. Cosmetically its a bit of an eyesore but the motor sounds great.

How much trouble am I getting myself into if I buy it (say 2000-2500) considering my skill level and the fact that there is no Honda dealer within 500 miles?

Anyone care to chime in with an opinion or 3?

If it runs, why not. Although I wouldn’t pay that much for that bike if it wasn’t on the road. Title?

Gonna need a working knowledge of motorcycle carbs and the competency to remove, clean, and rebuild them.

I had a 1998 VFR800FI that I bought new, loved that bike! The Gen 5 VFR (1998 ~ 2001) is my favorite generation of the VFR with the gear driven cams, fuel injection, and without the complicated VTEC.
How bad is it cosmetically?
