Yamaha have finally announced some details and pictures.

This superb 4th Generation Supersport machine, has increased power and an even better handling chassis for 2006. Making sure that this legendary machine maintains it's position as the most exciting and more desirable 1000cc supersport machine on the market.
Available in a special limited edition colour scheme to celebrate Yamaha's 50th Anniversary, this Extreme Yellow machine was inspired by the livery of the legendary World Championship winning bikes that dominated the 500cc Road Racing Championships back in 1978, 1979, 1980. The Yellow R1 will also feature the Yamaha 50th Anniversary logo on it's tank.

For the more experienced and discerning customers Yamaha has a real 'Supersport Treat' in the shape of the YZF-R1SP. This high specification "SP" version of the YZF-R1 is available in a limited run of only 500 units worldwide. Fitted with a range of high quality exclusive racing components that have been developed and tested specially for this machine made in close association with suspension experts Öhlins and world renowned, wheel builders Marchesini, mean this is not your average R1. And to support this exclusivity further the YZF-R1SP has a unique and very distinctive, high quality colour scheme featuring a golden tuning fork emblem to match the other race-inspired components.

Yellow and black Yamahas ALWAYS look good.

But I have always been a sucker for black and gold..... that thing looks freakin' nice.

I prefer the 50th anniversary colours on the new R6 compared to the R1.

I'm surprised Yamaha hasn't improved the performance of the R1 though, particularly the low end, like what Honda did with the 05 CBR600RR compared to the 03 and 04.

I guess they are happy with the current generation One, so the changes they have made probably further improve an already good bike.
