Hi everyone,

I'm new to the world of motorcycling and could really use some advice on choosing my first bike. There are so many options out there, and I want to make sure I pick something that's beginner-friendly but still fun to ride. What are some of the best motorcycles for beginners? Are there specific models or features I should look for? Any recommendations or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!

The best beginner bike is something used - bear with me - that is mechanically sound and will pass a safety inspection. NOT your dream bike. Consider that as you hone your skills chances are excellent that you will have more than one or two parking lot oppsies at the least, potentially something more serious at the worst. Better to have those happen on something that isn't shiny new and that you're making payments on.

A brand new bike will be more expensive to insure, and as soon as you leave the dealership it's value drops, as with new cars. Find something that fits you, that isn't super high powered/twitchy in the throttle and ride the crap out of it for six months at least. There's an excellent chance that unless you destroy it you'll be able to resell it for what you paid or not much less.

Honda Rebel 300 - Lightweight, easy to handle, and has a low seat height.
Kawasaki Ninja 400 - Sporty look with manageable power.
Yamaha MT-03 - Naked bike with a comfortable riding position.

You'll definitely put it through its paces as you're learning, so don't spend a lot until you get some experience. Some other makes and models that are commonly recommended for new riders are the Suzuki GS500, Honda CB300R, and Yamaha SR400. They're forgiving to learn on but still fun.
