hi im new to the forum. I 19, im in college, used to ride dirt bikes back in the day. I have about $2,500 to spend on a bike, I might take a small loan though. I need a bike as a dd to school and work. Anyways Ive been reading cycletrader for weeks now and I found cheap deals.
what do you guys think about older Honda shadows (1992-96)for around 2200.
or an older sport bike for 3k.
or 250 ninja for cheap
I know since I'm young I should go with a sportbike but this will be my first bike... so do I go sport or no? will I get bored with a 250? will I look like an idiot on a cruiser. should I save for a better more expensive bike?.... what do you guys think?

A cruiser will probably be cheaper to ensure at your age. Whether or not you will look cool on one is subjective.

Go with what feels right when you sit on it.

Since when has age had anything to do with what style of bike you should ride???
If you want to ride a cruiser, go for it, to hell with what everyone else thinks, it's your
ride. If it is a sport bike your wanting, why the waffle on choices...
Go sit on a lot of bikes in the showroom. Get a feel for what you'll like, take the MSF
course and you should get to ride a few different styles of bike, that will help you with
your decision.
Just don't let someone BS you into thinking that any given style of bike is age sensitive.
I know 16 a year old that got a mid-sized cruiser for his first ride, went to a sport bike for
his second bike a few years later, and traded it in almost immediately because it wasn't
what he felt good on.
Take care and good luck with your decision...

no, you won't look like an idiot on a cruiser. You will look as cool, or cooler, IMO. And age doesn't have anything to do with it. Whatever feels comfortable.

agreed on all points made by everyone...and let us know what you decide on!

your on two wheels...you already look ten times cooler than everyone else.

you should sit on different kinds and see what you like and you shouldn't make your choice on if you think other ppl will think you look like an idiot. and if you went with a sport in my opion i would get board with a 250 but thats just me. but you could always get a 250 then sell it when your board. Do you have any friends that ride?

My friend is in the same shoes I am... he's looking at old harley sportsters. I think I favoring the suzuki SV650. We both can't decide on bikes. I might take an MSF course to try some bikes out.

Definately take the MSF course. And definately try out different bikes.
Age means nothing when it comes to style of bike. I know a guy who is 22 and rides a Harley. One of my coworkers is in his mid 30s and rides a Ninja.
so just find what type of bike you like and ride it.
