Man, I love this site so far and will value your input. I have narrowed my new bike choice down to the BMW 650gs or the Suzuki SV650 (i know, completely opposites). Insurance fairly low on both. Each has something to offer. I will mainly commute and would like to day trip and explore new places. (need luggage) The BMW is 3k more $ but I think would be better on long trips and the gravel back roads here. SV is less money, faster, looks better but no heated hand grips  Just looking for some feedback. No...I cant afford both.

I'd say go for the SV. You can alway add luggage space with a tank bag and a tail bag, as well as a backpack. Not to mention you can get aftermarket heated grips or, better yet, heated gloves!

Oh yes, and make sure to ride both, if possible. No sense in getting a bike you're not comfortable on!

BMW 650gs + Suzuki SV650 = Suzuki V-Strom 650, nes pas?

And the V-Strom has available hard luggage by Givi.

Durr, I forgot all about the VStroms. Nice looking bikes, if ya ask me, and seem right up the BMW Dakar's alley.

Thanks for the response and the pix!! I'm short, so although I did look at the V-strom, the seat was a little higher than the sv650. After much thought I have decided on the SV650. Tank bag and back pack should be good for now. I'm taking a day off work this Friday and driving my new bike home!! I can't wait. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas. Yahoo. :D
