Scraping Pegs

Holy crap...

I was just doing some warmup exercises... basically just circling my block practicing turning at speed and then counterbalancing back and forth...

And on my way out of a left hander I was really practicing looking deep into the turn and countersteering.

And as I settled nice and deep into the turn... I scraped the pegs on my little Ninja 250R.

That was a nice little adrenaline rush. =)

I do that on a cruiser alot, it scared me Shiteless the first time, I tensed up for impact thinking I had already lost it. Luckilly, I didn't drop it, and now I do it, it doesn't scare me.

Me engine guards are the first things to scrape on my alpha... kinda upsets me, as I like to lean a little more than they will allow. I might try to get the bike raised a few inches...I'd hate to ditch the engine guards.

The pic was taken by the fine folks at DragonSlayerPhotos.com, and I just zoomed-in on it. The original pic was 3504x2336 resolution so it zooms really well without becoming pixelated.

My bike has a 50 degree lean angle, I have never been over that far even on the track.

You scraped on Ninja 250R, wow you're pretty hard on leaning, aren't you? It is good to getting used to with scraping sound but don't push too hard.

It is a lot easier to scrap on Cruiser style bike,
which is not really a good thing since other hard part like pipes or frame might scrap and cause the bike to loose handle. Image

Sorry not sparking frame LOL.

During my MSF class, one of the guys in our class was on a Suzuki GX250 "cruiser"-style bike. He scraped the pegs on both sides, most notably on the right, going through our cornering excercises. The instructor pulled him over to the side and said he was doing a good job, but "there's not reason to be scraping pegs in this class".
We kidding him about it the whole time!
Anyway...just wanted to toss that little tid-bit out there.

So what am I doing "wrong"? I've been riding for 25+ years, a LOT of different bikes, and I NEVER scraped anything on any of my bikes....My Volusia 800 is a cruiser and I've never even scraped a peg on that one.

I'll be the first to admit I'm not an overly agressive rider, but I've done some sharp hard corners and if I leaned any lower, I'd fall over.

What gives?
