letting out clutch slowly... yet stalls [any tips?]

#1 Unread post by freebird »

I just bought a VStar 1100 and have been practicing but I continue to stall it when starting from a stop. Also, I find it particularely difficult to start from a stop if I need to make an immediate right turn. Any tips? I'm really frustrated.

pull the clutch back in a little until the bike gets going. and keep practicing and it will get easier

Also, you could have the revs just a bit higher... JUST A BIT!!!!

See if there is any adjustment on the lever and bring it closer to your hand. If you are at the limit of travel and are allowing the clutch to snatch this could cause your stalling. Remember that it is your clutch that allows you to go not your revs, most bikes can go from idle if the clutch action is smooth from full in to full out.
I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
A touch of insanity crept back in the shape of an R1200R

I never noticed my bikes going from idle... But then again, Im too impatient for slow clutch use. (just rev a bit and let it out slow).

The trick is to wait until the clutch just begins to bite, then add a couple more revs, whilst still feeding the clutch out

V Stars have a very narrow friction zone. As others have said, rev it just a bit more than you think while letting out the clutch. You may want to go to an empty lot and practice with the friction zone while starting and stopping in a straight line.
