Hello all.
With the exception of my research into diy air filters (see post under that name) I've only dealt with stock paper filters, so this may be obvious to someone who rides newer bikes.
I've got a 76 honda cb750 with a dirty air filter, but it's been replaced (I think) with a different kind. There's no part no or manufacturer name I can see, but I'll try to describe it.
It consists of a chrome box with a perforated metal ring where the air gets through. On the inside is another, seperate ring held in place by a springy z-shaped piece of metal, and sandwiched in between the two metal rings is a dirty, crumbly foam ring, which I assume is covered in oil under all that crud. Cleaning it doesn't seem to be an option, since it disintegrates on contact, so I'd like to replace the foam, but I don't know what the heck it is. It doesn't look like the "uni" foam I've seen pictures of.
Any ideas?

I bought a Vulcan and when I checked the air filters I found a metal screen cage. I could not belive that was all of the air filter. I called the parts store and they told me that an oily foam went over the cage to filter the air. The foam had crumbled to pieces and the engine ate it and spit it out the pipes. That will happen to yours if not replaced with new ones. Good Luck.

Thanks for the heads up, niterider. Looks like I'll be stopping at the bike store tomorrow. I still wish I knew what brand of filter this was, but hopefully they'll recognize it.

also.. you don't want to be running the bike without a filter...
