Ride within your limits! (pics)

Group ride ahoy:
Image

A couple of the riders seemed new and a lot of the riders around here are inexperience guys with powerful bikes, so I naturally expect trouble.

Saw this going around a corner about 80 miles into the trip:
Image

Captain McCan'tRide tried to keep up with the more experienced rider and the guy with the F4i, and this was the result:
Image

~70 MPH lowside on a blind corner (road turns just under the crest of a hill). His Aplinestar gloves didn't hold up to the chipsealed road:

Somebody's buying a new Shoei:

We left a shrine:

These new riders around here think they can hang with guys with 10+ years of riding experience. Now I know why insurance rates are so dang high for kids my age!

Remember to wear your gear, all the time, kids. Sure, the gloves busted open on the poor guy, but imagine if they weren't there in the first place. Also, notice that the jeans bursted on impact, so don't think your cotton blue jeans are going to help in the least. Image

This was a very good post . Sorry about the guy that went down , but it certainly could have been worse .

Cheers for the post, Skier - shame about the guy going down like that. Hope somebody can learn something from this...
Don't give up.

Even though is not so smart for trying to keep up, he was smart enough to have some protective gear.

the helmet definately saved his brain.

Hey Skier,
Good pix and good reminders for everyone. Did you join this group or were you just on the same route? And if you are riding with guys like you described, watch yourself that they don't cause problems riding near you.
Ya right, there are only 2 kinds of bikes: It's a Ninja... look that one's a Harley... oh there's a Ninja... Harley...Ninja...

Good point. I used to do a lot of group rides sponsored by a local bike shop. We'd head up to some serious twisties and there were always some newbs on brand new, overpowered bikes that thought they had to keep up with the head of the pack. After having a couple of these guys go down right in front of me, I started making sure I was ahead of any new riders on liter bikes.

BTW - The sponsoring bike shop did a killer business in replacement plastic and chrome off these weekend rides.

A couple of my mates over here have just started riding. They're on 125 cc bikes. So a ride-out can include my XJR1200, my mates CB500 and a Suzuki Marauder 125 - there is a simple rule. Ride to the speed of the slowest rider. that way, everyone is within their limits, and a much more fun and safe ride can be had by all.
