Wife's Being A Pain

When I ride I always wear full protection gear (full face helmet, leather jacket with CE certified body armor, motorcycle boots, and full fingered gloves). But my wife rides her scooter a lot and doesn't seem to want to listen to me to wear full gear. She wears a helmet and gloves but refuses to wear leather jacket and boots. She wears her sneakers and jean jacket. Refuses to even wear jeans! Skirts, black pants, shorts, etc but no jeans!
I can understand on a scooter going 20mph is not a huge deal but now she wants to ride on the back of my bike and there is no way i would let her on with at least a protective jacket. So I convinced her to buy a motorcycle jacket.
I would prefer her to get leather with extra protection on shoulders and elbows but she insists on getting a textile with the padding. Is textile ok? Or should I be hard-headed on this and insist on leather?
Here is what she wants:

what do you think? its got padding at least...

it's okay... as long as it's a motorcycle-specific jacket she choose. But try to have that jacket in good thick leather.

I think a textile with padding is fine.

When you choose motorcycle-specific jackets, it comes with all the necessary padding for protection. Then, you must see that the jacket fits well. So that all the padding go to the right places it should protect.

In general textile jackets are almost as good as leather these days, but it depends on the jacket. Some good textile jackets are better than some not-so-good leather jackets. Some texitle jackets are not very good at all. There isn't an easy answer to this. The only thing you can do is look through the bike magazines that do product testing and see what they think of specific items. At the very least, whether you go for textile or leather, go for something from a reputable manufacturer.

i have the mens edition of that jacket. i love it. good protection, breaths well, comfy, etc. the only draw back is that it only has elbow and shoulder protection, nothing on the back. other than that, awesome.

I agree.

Your wife got a nice choice there, ralphie.

Hi there, a bit late to reply but here goes. My husband came off our 450 Honda in 1979, we got hit from the side, we were doing about 10kms per hr. He is still paying for it and he had leathers on, god only knows what would have happened if he hadn't. Kit up properly no matter the size of machine you're on. Unless you like legs and arms with bit chunks out of them.

All that has to happen is for her to take a little tumble at little or virtually no speed & that should convince her to gear up more than she does now.
In the mean time go with her flow she's getting there....
I like the jacket she has chosen, why not tell her how nice (Sexy?) it would look with the matching pants?

Funny how women change their minds. My wife was the same about boots and insited on wearing something "fashionable" It took me two years to convince to wear proper motorcycle boots. Now of course she tells every one else that they have to too.
