BMW K75 RT for a first bike?

Hello everybody,

I've recently completed the MSF course and got my endorsment. I test drove a K75 RT for about 1/2 hour without any problems (other than stalling the engine twice at stop signs). I thought the bike was great although I could feel its weight while cornering slowly. I like the fact that it has ABS and I can plant both feet down without a problem I'm 36, 6'2 and I weigh 220 lb. Do you think this bike is suitable for a first?

Thank you for your advice.

It's got about the same powerband as a Yamaha xj750 ... slightly less actually.

It's doable, but not the best bike for reasons you've already noticed (weight). Just take it easy with the bike. If it's the one you want, then go for it. The best thing you can do is practice slow-speed maneuvers with it so you can develop a feel for the weight of the bike.

Decent bike tho - real cult following... have fun w/ it.

This often comes down to how the bike feels. Some bikes just feel right and others don't. If you are comfortable, go with it. All machines will have something you do not like, but if there are more pluses than minuses you are on the right track. Go with your gut, it's not often wrong.

I have a 91 RT ride it in LA traffic everyday one of the best bikes I ever rode. 50 mpg comfy and dependable. One small problem is heat on your knees on down I put Baker built wings on and that took care of it. 8)
