Jackets

I realize that if a person is going to ride they need to have all the kit to go with it. I have seen some nasty roadrash from guys not wearing the proper stuff. My question is to do with jackets. I can see the obvious advantages to wearing a leather bike jacket, but what about the nylon-type jackets that are out there. Are they any good or not worth the money? The ones I have seen have padding and venting and whatnot, but do you run the risk of the material sticking if you slide on it? I just don't want to throw money away if they are junk.

Most likely if you spend good money on a well known brand, you'll be getting a fine quality jacket. I plan on getting my gear at
http://www.newenough.com when the time comes. There are also other sites that other members recomend, i'm sure someone will pipe in with those?

I bought this one at Iron Pony for $200.00. It's armored, has a zip-out liner, and is as water-proof as jackets come. If it came down to it, I think this jacket would slide across the pavement easier than leather (I have a leather one, too).

It's a Joe Rocket Meteor 4.0

Leather is still better protection than any mass-produced fabric.

And it's a great weight-loss aid since you sweat your balls off on anything but the coolest of days.

Yep. While you can get some really, really nice textile gear, unless you shell out an arm and a leg for it, it won't hold up as nicely as a set of quality double-stiched leathers.

$200.00 for a fully-armored jacket with vents, a removable liner, and a reflective back is the most I'm gonna spend for a garment that gets left at home for 90% of my rides. If I do go down while wearing it, and the pavement manages to eat through a layer a aircraft-grade vinyl, a thick plastic inner shell, and another layer of vinyl, all I can say is I hope it leaves a wicked-cool scar!

I have a nice HJC leather jacket as well as some great leather chaps . I wear them on really cold days during the winter.
