Winter Gear

Its getting pretty damn cold at night here and since I only started riding a few weeks ago, I have not purchased any winter gear yet. What do you guys have and what do you recommend as essentials to beat the cold?

It breaks the wind pretty well, and I can just leave it on when I get to the mall of wherever i'm going.

What do you guys have and what do you recommend as essentials to beat the cold?

Bare minimum for the bike is to have a windshield. If you have a cruiser with crash guards you can get soft vinyl covers that slip over them to keep the wind off your lower legs. For clothing you should have riding pants with armoured knee pads (they help keep the cold wind off your knees), thermal undies, long sleeved shirt, neck warmer, thick jacket (I have a Rhyno ballistic nylon jacket with quilted liner), lined gloves (anything with Thinsulate insulation is usually sufficient), thick wool socks, decent boots, a full face helmet or a half helmet and a ski mask and - my personal favourite and highly recommended - an electric vest.

Here's what I wear, so far I'm staying warm and it's been in the mid 40's in the morning. I have a 25 mile commute to work.

Thermal underwear (bottoms) T-shirt, jeans, zip up fleece, (has a built in 'neck warmer') and my 16 year old J.C. Whitney 'biker jacket'. I have work boots and Thinsulate leather gloves.

I'm totally comfortable.....for now.
