Do you lock up your bike and How?

I usually just use the sterring lock which I know can be easily broken, but for the most part if I travel I try and park the bike in the room Im sleeping in.

I also lock the steering, and park as close as possible to the door of the hotel. As for the helmets, even if i'm dropping a movie off, or picking up a sandwich, I'll lock or take the helmet with me. I've heard too many stories of young bikers getting helmets stolen in daylight at busy places... you can never be too careful.. especially with these $200 helmets!

I always park in a well lit, visible location, with the steering locked, and a disc lock. Also if I'm leaving it a whilst, I'll chain it to something too

Most of the time I use the fork lock, but I also have a cable lock in case I want to lock the bike to a lamp post or some such. I run the cable through the rear wheel and frame and lock it to something sturdy. I mainly only take the cable lock when I'm going for an extended trip and the bike will be parked outside overnight. l always lock my helmet or carry it in.

I always lock to a lamppost, with a good chain, also disc lock. Up untill recently i also used a cover to keep her away from prying eyes,(i dont have a garage), but she blew over in the wind! I watched it in slow motion...there was nothing i could do. Thats Scottish weather for you. Brake lever bent double, scorpion can scratched, scuffed engine casing! ££££££££

Always the disklock, if i'm leaving it for any amount of time, then i'll add a chain as well.

I'm lucky in that my bike goes mainly from my locked garage to the secure car park at work.

I'm REALLY BAD for this as my bike does not have a steering lock at all! And there is no manufacturer provided manual way to lock the handlebars. So most of the time I'll put the bike on it's center stand and not worry about it.

I don't think my bike is what motorcycle thieves would want. But you never know...

I do carry the original motorcycle chain that came with the bike and I will use it if I'll be away from the bike for any lenght of time. The neat thing is Yamaha designed a bike lock to go with the Seca, it even has it's own special storage area on the bike for it.

same here, Mike. No steering/handlebar/fork lock at all. Our bikes were made in the kindler, gentler society of the early 80s, when maybe bikes just weren't stolen all that often?

So far I'm relying on the "old clunker bike ain't worth stealing" theory as a deterrent too, plus the fact that it weighs over 600 lbs. Anyone trying to steal it will probably either
a) drop it when they can't push it more than 10 feet, or
b) be bigger and stronger than me, in which case he can have the bike

that said, i am currently in the market for a disc lock

Sounds like a good theory to me!

Although my wife's 1981 CB400T Hawk (400lbs) has a fork lock!
