Whats the general opinion on carb cleaning products? Worthless or do they do more harm than good?

What kind?

Tanks additives are generally worthless if there's major buildup, but they can be effective if used before buildup becomes a major problem.

If you are talking about spray-type take it apart and clean it cleaner, most of those are worthless too. Best to have the carbs dipped.

If you search through all of the carb problem posts on this forum, i'll bet 3/4ths of the people had to go back and reopen their carbs because they didn't really get them completely clean. I don't think they're not doing a good job, but the solvents in the spray cleaner just aren't strong enough to get the grime from the places you can't see.

Sorry I wasn't more specific, I meant the fuel additives.

I din't think they are worth much at all. I will run a teaspoon or two of marvel mystery oil in a tank of gas from time to time, because it coats the metal in the carb and prevents varnish from even forming.

yamaha sells a fuel additive that actually helps keep the carbs clean.
it will not do anything for already clogged fuel and air jets.

I like seafoam for my cars, I haven't used it on my bike yet but will probably do so when I get it running well consistently.
