ive been looking everywhere online and i cant find any info on crash bungs. can anyone help me out here? mostly i want to know where to find them, what they look like, how usefull are they realy... stuff like that. any clues?

damn! i didnt think to google image that one... but still, i would like to know how usefull they realy are. thinking about getting some for the bike im getting.

They look as ugly as sin and in the event of a crash increase the chances of a bent frame dramatically. All for the sake of saving an engine cover or a bit of paint. Personally, I don't think they are worth it.

hmm.. ill have to check into that. thanks for the advice. is that a common outlook on them?

Crash bungs in the U.K. and Europe, frame sliders in North America = the same thing.

Good, practical ones should mount in a location that uses the frame and something like a motormount both to support the frame slider. Often you must cut bodywork to make them fit and they are not placed for maximum 'cool factor'. They are good in terms of racebike crash survivablity, so you can finish the race after you throw away the lead. For a streetrider, most sliders don't mount to such a solid location and can damage the mounting piont in a crash without saving any expensive parts from dragging on the ground. On a roadbike, they are mostly 'glitter'... there to look cool, not reallt do anything usefull.

But most people who have them on thier bikes won't admit to that.

I disagree about popular consensus about frame sliders. I agree that they can bend your frame and all, but in a situation in which they would bend your frame, that will likely be the least of your worries.

It is incredibly easy to smash expensive fairings on sportbikes, even if its a low speed spill. It will save you big bucks on little spills, but could bend your frame in a more serious accident. I guess you have to weigh the risks. If you have a naked bike, then frame sliders might not be the thing to get.

I unfortunately have first hand experience with frame sliders, so I think they work well.
