Whole bike pictures! No drawings!

#1 Unread post by ronboskz650sr »

Here's the first set of actual photos with no supplemental drawing to make pieces black. The tail is just painted with a single light coat to sand out with the primer as a guide coat, but you get the idea. The taillight is also masked off, but you get the idea. The seat is a test cushion, but...you get the idea. I'm just thrilled to see my concept all one color for the first time and actually put together! There are still many things to do...final latching configuration for the seat isn't installed, but will be before the big test ride. The gas cap opening needs to be trimmed and epoxied before I fuel it up. Epoxy around the paint edge to seal it from fumes that will wrinkle or lift the paint as the tank vents. At some point, I'm moving the license plate inward an inch, just to further streamline it. And of course the tail isn't finished paint-wise, or upholstered. The front fender is in for a makeover as well. Still, now I'm really motivated from seeing it...oh yeah, the pictures :frusty:

Here's a drawing of my vision for the seat, after the final detemination of the proper foam...I'll post the process as I build it...so far, nothing unusual...just a single piece of foam carved with a turkey knife.

Thanks, Zoo!

Funny you should ask...SR-79. The tail resembles the nose of an SR-71, and it's a 1979 SR model..seems appropriate, if a little eccentric  . I'm figuring out a plate emblem like the Kawasaki ones on the tank to put in the original mounting holes for the SR logo on the side panels. I think I can make them using some jewelry techniues I learned in art class in High school.

You've made yourself a really cool little bike, Ron. With the 2 tails, you could call it the SR-79 Convertable. Mark I.
No Witnesses.... :shifty:

Just what I need...another tail project! Oh, sorry, I just got the idea (sucks getting old)...not bad! I guess I need to look up the original post where Chris teased everyone about something happening. I'm sure it was some time ago. Wasn't that big adeal since I could ride during the whole process of the first two iterations. But now it's getting serious...6 days since I rode last...unacceptable. I'll epoxy the tank opening, and fill'er up to ride today. I'll bungee the seatpan to the frame behind the seat cushion. The heck with the rest of it.
