bolt missing or not on v-star 650
bolt missing or not on v-star 650
Anybody that has changed oil on these bikes, my question is, I know where there drain bolt is, behind the frame left side, but on the right side there is a threaded hole with no bolt in it,should there be a bolt there or not, i checked if anything leaked out and it doesnt seem too. What is the purpose of the threaded hole, and if no has looked under the v-star 650 please do and tell me if there bike has no bolt either

Boomer,
I went out to the garage and checked the 650. Looking underneath I can see two horizontal holes, one in the forward end of the case and the other aft. They are each positioned in tabs that make up each half of the crankcase (split front to back). Neither one of these is threaded. Looking from the right side directly across toward the back side of the drain plug boss I cannot see a corresponding boss or threaded hole. Nearby, however, there is a threaded hole leading upward into the case at a slight angle. This is occupied by some sort of bolt or plug, it seems to have a thin green line across the end of it.

The threaded hole is directly behind the green rear bolt on the kick stand you actually dont look under you can see it pretty easy from the side, hopefully thats what you are looking at and I think you are so it seems I lost a plug or bolt, but can you tell me what that threaded hole is for if you know thanks

I see what you are talking about now. I first understood you to be talking about the right side of the bike...now I see that you are referring to the right of the drain plug, but still on the left side of the bike.
Yes, that threaded hole has been there since day one, never anything in it. It may have been intended for something that was changed during production, but I know it was there when I was down peeling off the white stickers when we first got the bike. I also meant to ask the dealer about it but totally forgot about since we don't visit the dealer very often.
