Plactic bag melted to exhaust pipe

Looking for help/suggestions...

I am a new rider - after riding my bike earlier today, I noticed that a plastic bag (like the type you put produce in at the grocery store) had somehow touched my exhaust pipes while I was riding and instantly melted. I waited until the pipes cooled, then pulled off the bigger pieces - but there is still some plastic stuck to my pipes. It burns and smells terrible every time that I ride for more than a couple minutes.

Any tips/suggestions on how to remove the plastic from the pipes without damaging the chrome?

Thanks a bunch,
Ted

When I accidentally melted some of my boot on my pipes I just scraped it off with a razor blade. It didn't damage the chrome at all. It doesn't take a lot of pressure, just gently push and scrape it off.

when its still hot wipe it off with a rag (thick so you don't burn yourself) and then after it cools see if a little metal polish doesn't take care of any that may be left.

get some 0000 steel wool--it wont scratch the chrome.

No removal tips - but you have my sympathies over the stench

I had a black plastic binbag weld itself to the exhaust on my car once, and it stank something terrible for many miles - until it burnt itself away that is :whistling:

Like someone said above - use 0000 steel wool. But get it hot first. you'll have it off in 30 seconds. if there's so much on there that it gums up, get the big pieces with a sharp razor blade and then hit it with the steel wool. I've done this many times and the most important thing is to get it good and hot first.
