wow. bike accidents are scary.

first accident. my girlfriend and i were riding..i was foolish enough to keep on the throttle as i peered around to see if i could move over to avoid being stuck behind 2 box trucks. oops. couldnt get over and i braked as wella s i could, trying to get as slow as possible and i stiffened my arms as hard as i could. hit the back of the truck, just the steel bumper against my front wheel. i slid up a little bit, barely on my tank. she pushed up against me, and thankfully landed right on her feet after coming off of me. i think she got a small bruise on her forearm. i took the brunt of the damage, with some painful scrapes in an area that is what any guy would consider the least desirable place for acquiring damage, and a scrape on my leg. the bike, (oh you tough sexy beast, i love you) has its fork slightly bent..i think the radiator was busted from the forks bending back and hitting it. luckily i have a spare..even spare forks, if i cant bend them back, or are not useable. she was still running after we hit and radiator fluid was spilling out. turned it off to talk to the driver..no damage to the truck, obviously..but we decided to try to see if we could ride home. started right up and we went home. it didnt overheat either. god bless the honda cx500, its built like a tank. so my advice to everyone....dont crash. its bad.

Glad to hear you're alright. Hope the bike gets back up to full steam too!

I have quite a few CX500 parts sitting in my garage, including forks, an engine, and I'm quite sure a radiator. Let me know if you need anything.

I, too, am glad to hear there were no serious injuries.

Remember to take something home from the accident. Know why it happened so you can avoid it in the future.

I remember when I wrestled a city champion in this tournament. After the match he began watching it on a camcorder since one of his teammates had taped it. He went over to me and gave me some tips on what I did wrong and how to improve, then he said "Hey, nobody likes to lose, but its worse when you lose and you don't learn anything from it."

Same thing. "Hey, nobody likes to crash, but its worse to crash and you don't learn anything from it."

Most important thing is you are OK. Embrace your experiance and replay it again and again from start to finish. It only becomes a stupid mistake if you make it twice.

Thats a nice gesture Zoo, I suspect somewhere under all your bluff and gruff, there is actually a nice guy under there.

probably the best example of a good sport and good winner that I have ever heard. That was really cool of him.

yeah i definitely learned (other than not to crash) that i should keep off the throttle when questionable choices on the road unexpectedly come up. i was foolish enough to think i would be able to 1)maneuver out of the way or 2) stop in time....my mistake was staying on the throttle. otherwise i think we couldve stopped in time...or at least hit the truck a whole lot slower than we had...i think we hit it at 45 or so. staying off the throttle im confident we wouldve only hit at about 20. possibly less. but as it was wisely pointed out, the good thing is we made out just fine and the bike is very repairable.

cx500 parts eh? i might be comin to ya for a front wheel if you have 80 or 81 parts....but i want to say i recall you having parts for a 79...

oh well, we'll see if i fixed my front wheel or not.
