Nooby again

Just getting back into the world of motorcycles after a 27 year absence. Once rode twenty some-odd miles to work every day that there wasn't ice on the road (in Indiana). Now, a divorce, a new marriage for the last 25 years, two kids,and five moves later, I am looking again. 
Don't yet have anything frim in mind to buy, Really appreciate the opportunity to learn before I leap.
