honestly...ya should get out of the habit right now of comparing bikes based on cc and get into the habit of looking at power outs puts in the terms of hp/kW/PS/ and power to weight.

Example

Aprillia RS 250cc = 45 kW power to weight = 0.5
Honda CB 250cc = 13 kW power to weight = 0.14

Both are 250cc

Ducati Monster Dark 600 cc = 37 kW power to weight = 0.2
Suzuki GSXR 600cc = 84 kW power to weight = 0.6

both 600cc

Harley-Davidson Road King 1500cc = 43 kW power to weight =0.18
Honda goldwing 1800cc = 81kW power to weight = 0.3

Huge CC's but a lot slower than a 250 and a 600.

CC's of a bike have not as much to do with the power outputs as you think they would.

The Aprillia 250 will do 220 kmh + while the ducati 600 would be lucky to do 160 kmh. one is a 250 the other is a 600.

wat it means is, ya need to go to a few bike stores have a chat to the guys there, have a sit on a few bikes, work out what type of riding ya wanna do, chat to them about your experiance levels and what ya wanna get out of riding, then do some reading about bikes in general, then start thinking about what you think you might want.

I was merely pointing out to you that a 500cc bike can be less powerfull than a 250cc or more powerfull than a 1000cc tourer..is all.

Id suggest any bike that is not a "RR" that puts you in a more upright position, that will be forgiving for the mistakes you will make.

sv 650
any non RR 250
ducati monster 600
cb 500
gpz 500
cb 600
zzr 600
gsf 600

ya get the idea

How do you find out how many kW a bike outputs?

I always assumed that bigger is better. But yah it does make sense that you need more engine power to push a bigger bike so some gets wasted on just moving you.

Im interested in such things...I usually goto straight to the builders website, ie; www.honda.com or sometimes they can be a bit coy about what their bikes can or can not do, so, a website such as http://www.bikez.com/brands/index.php can be very helpfull too. There are many peeps who have done their own form of dynos etc; ya just google and you would be surprised what you can find out about any bike in particular.

Shane-O-

The ZZR-600 is basically a 2002 ZX-6 with 98bhp. Im sure that a person who shows riding aptitude could learn on it, but its probably not a "recommended beginner bike".
