I was trying to ride home from work the other day when i found out the road sensors dont pick up my bike ... ergo the $#%@ing light never turns green... so i end up having to run red lights just to make it home without making mucho right turns... does this happen to anyone else... or does utah just blow .... am i just missing the sensor or what.... well..... happy trails fellas!! Some older lights are just like that . I think that it happens everywhere . There was another thread regarding this .

Is there nothing you can buy to fix this?
Like an underside magnet (or whatever the sensors use) to trip them?
Will the police buy "sorry, my bike didn't trip the sensors" and should we avoid being hte first at a light since we can't trip the sensors?

You can legally make a right turn at a red light. This might mean a slightly longer trip on the way home... but that would be preferable to a ticked for me. Besides bikes were built to go the long way.
Uhh part of the problem is that with resurfacing and stuff the wires that are used in the detection system can end up being not where they are indicated to be. They're supposed to be about a foot deep (I could be wrong) and behind the stop line.
With a couple new layers of asphault on top you get to be to far away for the bike to affect the magnetic fields, so you don't get noticed. Or the stop line is moved. Around here 1/2 of the sensors don't pick up my CAR until I'm 1/2 way into the pedestrian walkway. This is because the crossing was added after the sensors.

it just blows, sorry but its the most borring plain town and i was sooo happy when my family moved, couldnt stand that place

I have talked about this on another forum and I thought and at least one of the other guys thought a large magnet on the under side of the bike might work. I've been on the road for work so haven't had a chance to try this yet.

Check out subdivision 9 of this section of the Minnesota Statutes:

Basically, it's a provision that allows a motorcyclist to make a left turn on a red light or go through a red light if it's obvious that he/she didn't trip the sensor.
1. You've got to stop (naturally) and then wait a "reasonable" time.
And
2. You've got to make sure that traffic is clear before you head out through the red light.
I love this law!
Perhaps you could take this text to your state representative and propose that he/she introduce it as as a bill during the next session of the Utah Legislature.
Who knows, getting this passed into law just might make Utah blow a little bit less!
