well, did a few things here and there to the Hawk 400 i just bought and it has turned out to be the BEST $450 i ever spent! it runs like a dream. when i got it, it was making a lot of valve noise and wouldn't idle. so i cleaned/resync'd the carbs, tightened the cylinder head (was causing excessive valve clearance) and readjusted the valves...now she runs like new!!

Congrats on gettin' her going again!
Now remove the battery, stabilize the gas, fog the cylinders, and put her away for the winter!

Or get a snowmobile suit, face mask, bigger helmet (so face mask fits), winter gloves, liners...blah, blah, blah, and keep riding. Kindof takes the Pleasure out of pleasure riding, though...

I am a glutton for punishment...it works for me.

speedKillz,
After a couple of other things that I can think of...that has to be one of the greatest feelings,eh? Paying little for a bike and then for minimal cost turning it into a good runner is near the top of pleasurable experiences. Way to fire!!

thanks guys! really excited to have gotten such a good deal. i plan on using it as a commuter so i plan to buy gear and keep riding. anyone have any suggestions on what riding gear is best? last bike i had was a dirtbike and to be honest, never really needed any riding gear besides a helmet, lol. also, anyone know a good place to buy it without paying an arm and a leg...?
thanks in advance!

I just picked up a Kilimanjaro Air (Firstgear) what a great jacket. I rode last night at 37F and I was nice and toasty.

you can get a fogging spray that will help protect the cylinder walls from moisture/rust during extended periods of sitting...
