A list of the initials and the names?

There a list somewhere of the bikes initials and then have it matched up with the name?

For example:

EX - Ninja
or
GS - Bandit

Something like that? Sorry I can't offer better examples but those are the only two I know.

lets see.

EX is the ninja 250/500

GS is suzukis term for a standard.

GSF is the bandit

GSX-F is the suzuki katana.

GSX-R is the gixxer

RM is suzukis MX bikes

DR is suzukis enduro and dual sports

SV is suzukis v-twin standards/sportbikes

CB is hondaese for a standard

CBR is hondaese for a 4 cylinder sportbike

VFR is honda speak for an interceptor

VF is the smaller honda shadow models

VTX is the bigger shadow models

RVT1000 is honda speak for the RC-51

CR is honda speak for a MX bike

XR is honda speak for an enduro or dual sport bike

GL is the honda term for the goldwing

EN is kawasakis term for the eliminator and vulcan 500

VN is kawasaki speak for the v-twin vulcans

ZX is kawasaki speak for the sport sport ninjas

ZZR is kawasaki speak for their lower line sport bikes

KX is kawasakiese for an MX bike

KLX is kawasakis enduro bikes

KLR is kawasakis dual sports

KZ is kawasaki for their older standards

Z is kawasaki for their newer standards

YZF is yamaha speak for their sportbikes

YFZ is yamahas sport ATVs

YZ is yamahas MX bikes

WR is yamahas enduro bikes

TT-R is yamahas dual sports

XV is the virago and I think the v-star

FZ is yamahas newer standards

FJ is yamahas older standards

I think that about covers the common ones LOL

I am not about to open a can of H-D alphabet soup

XL = Sportsters
FXD = Dynas
FXST = Softails
VRSC = V-Rods
FLHR/FLTR = Touring
With a side of Buell:
XB = Ulysses/Lightning/Firebolt
Blast = Blast...

Ya left out the BMWs.

f bikes are single cylinder (650s)
R is oilhead twin cyclinder - flat twin
K is inline (4 cyclinder)

GS at the end means 'dual sport'

There are about a dozen other 'suffixes' which I'm having trouble sorting out in my head. I'm sure someone can enlighten.

S at the end of a BMW bike indicates sportbike, R indicates naked bike, T indicates touring, C indicates cruiser

zl for the eliminators
vt for honda v twins
vf is not for the shadows it is for the v4 family of bikes shadows are v twins

Well mostly. Some of the letters make a little more sense when defined with their German roots. But over the years the designations mix English and German. For example and LT & RT are both touring bike. An RS & GT are both Sports Touring. Go figure.

Designation Meaning
S - Sport
R - Roadster
RS - Reisesport
RT - Reisetourer (reise = journey)
LT - Luxustourer
GT - Grand Tourism
GS - Gelande Strasse
ST (R1200ST) Sporttourer
ST (F650ST) Strasse (road)
CS (R100CS) Classicsport
CS (F650CS) Scarver

Don't forget BMW ....

F = "Funduro"

And R means "Rad" (Bike) in German. (i.e. BMW Motorrad)
