What brand is good?

#1 Unread post by tewillia »

I've been searching for helmets on the web and have seen some bad "O Ring" helmets for good prices. I know the more the price is, the better the helmet is. Which of these brands are good? Which are cheap? THe prices seem to good to be true.
Nolan, Z1R, AGV, MDS, Grex, M2R, AFX, and GMAX?

I've never heard of any of those...

I know HJC and Scorpion make quality low cost lids.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

AGV made excellent helmets. Used to be one of the top brands 30+ years ago. Agostini used them so did many other top racers back then.

Z1R's Strike was Motorcyclist magazine's top pick (out of all their tested lids, which included Arai's and AGV's).

Check it out, it's about $80 I think.

Z1Rs are supposed to be good

AGV is supposed to be good

M2R is a new brand that is priced in the mid range.

Nolans are supposed to be pretty good.

The brand isn't as important as the FIT - have a look at the helmet fit guidelines, sticky.

Next would be that the helmet at least has a DOT sticker. Some folks also swear by the SNELL certification, and others swear AT the snell cert (I'm a believer IN snell) - all Snell hemets have the DOT, but not all DOT helmets are snell certified.

I'll second the Scorpion EXO 700! Just got my first bike and gear and this helmet almost feels like an Arai.

I would say a lot more comfortable than a HJC and around the same price.
