Only Idles on full choke

I am working on this old 1980 yamaha maxim 650 that has not been ran in 6 years. I pulled the carb bank out and cleaned them up (I think) and put back together. I did notice the carb holders are cracked and I will order new ones. In the mean time, bike will start right up and idle with full choke only. If I turn off the choke, it dies. If I crack the throttle, it dies. No matter how much I adjust the idle, it still idles at the same speed. Any ideas?

i'd check and clean your idle jet/slow speed circuit.

Until you order those new carb holders (you are talking about the rubber boots right?) you might want to try liquid electric tape. I use it on mine and it brought them back from the grave. You can find it at most autoparts and hardware stores.

Your pilot circuit is plugged up still. You need to try and remove the old pilot jets to clean them. Also in your float bowl there is a choke opening that is really hard to get cleaned out.
