New to forum and just wondering if anyone can help me find out the info on this bike. All I have is the fuzzy picture, thanks for the help.
Appears to be older 70's yamaha just wondering how close it is to my fathers old RT2 360.

Thanks
CS

That's really a bad picture, but I'll take a stab at it. It looks like an early 80s Yamaha XS400 Special. Two cylinder, four-stroke, 400cc twin.

See a resemblance?

If you go down All the way (To the ad) on the same page - you see the SR500. I think it's one of those. I'm pretty sure that's a one cylinder bike.

By the looks of that pic you must be a professional spy.

It's possible. The single and the twin are very similar when viewed from the side. The reason I was leaning towards the 400 was the wire wheels. I'm pretty sure all of the SR500s came with alloy wheels, and that's one item that very few people will change (i.e. go back to spokes). Also the SR500 had tall, but kind of straight bars, whereas this bike seems to be wearin the "buckhorn" style that was common on the 400 Specials.

This is fun. It's always a hoot to try and identify something from the UJM era. They didn't call 'em Universal Japanese Motorcycles for nothin'

All good points ... and it's weird that the exhaust pipe sorta exits from the side and not in between the front downtubes....

didn't the twins have mufflers on both sides (barring the possibility of aftermarket of course)
