insurance ??
hey i was wondering how much insurance is gonna cost for me. im going to be just starting out and i will of passed the MSF course. im 18 ,in california, clean driving record if that stuff helps
Depends on the bike you buy, what options you choose, etc.
I'd wager a couple thousand in California. At least I THINK California's rates are high.
Here in Texas it's about $1000 a year for full coverage (I'm 18 and male too).
But you should get a slight discount from taking the MSF course, not much. Maybe 10%. But when you're talking thousands of dollars, 10% is still $100...

Like I said, it's probably going to cost a lot more in California. Everything seems to cost more in CA.
So I would be willing to wager that your motorcycle insurance will cost a lot more than your car insurance.

With AAA in northern CA, I pay $860 a year for my '86 Suzuki without collision, comprehensive, or medical (no sense paying extra for medical if my health insurance covers it). The bike was salvaged so collision and comp weren't offered. And that rate is with an fender bender on my record from two years ago. I'm a 19 yo male. Without the accident, it woulda been $480 a year.

Nice name. If this were the proper forum I'd question you on what guitar you had.
But instead I'll merely comment on how a crash will kill your rates. I was messing around with Geico's online pricer thing and the difference between with and without a crash is about 300 bucks.
And on a side note the difference between a 2005 SV650 and a 2000 SV650 is about 500 dollars. For what reason, I don't know.
Newer model I guess.

I bought insurance from Pacific Specialty Insurance Company, look it up on the web and check them out. I paid like $150 or something for a '92 GS500 and that was with higher liability limits than the minimum.
The rates I got from my insurance company (Liberty Mutual), AAA, and someone else were, IMO outrageous considering it was only for liability (no comp, collision, medical). In one case, the rate was almost twice what I paid for the bike!!!
AAA said they just started selling motorcycle insurance in CA and the rating is based on how many years you've been riding, i.e. zero for me & you.
