Tank Restoration Project… Lacquer or Acrylic? Duplicolor?

#1 Unread post by gerpena »

I have just about finished sanding my tank with 400 grit sandpaper. I plan on doing one more round of 600 grit paper (the paint bottle recommends 380) before I apply the primer. I am doing my best to do a good job.

One of the reasons why I began this restoration project was to get rid of a dent. The other was because of some major gasoline-spill discolorations on the tank. With that in mind, is there any type of paint that will resist stains from gasoline spills better? A friend suggested lacquer is better than acrylic in this regard. Also, my local autoparts store only carries the brand Duplicolor... Is that ok or is there a better brand I should consider for semi-gloss?

thanks!
